Pen pushers at PricewaterhouseCoopers got down to some manual work under a blazing zun earlier this month as a community gesture to celebrate the formation of the global PwC audit group 10 years ago when Coopers & Lybrand and Price Waterhouse merged.

The merger created a global firm comprising more than 140,000 people in 149 countries including almost 300 in Malta.

PwC is celebrating its creation globalling by raising funds for educational facilities in Chad for refugees fleeing Darfur. Some US$ 2.6 million have been raised so far, including a generous donation from PwC Malta.

John Bonello, PWC senior partner in Malta said the firm had also decied to partner Din l-Art Helwa, the Gaia Foundation and Nature Trust on an environment activity, and 220 employees spent a morning building rubble walls, clearing debris and delineating paths at the nature park at Xaghra l-Hamra.

Mr Bonello said PwC in Malta had a very active and structured Corporate Social Responsibilty programme in the areas of the environment, sport and youth. The firm supported Din l-Art Helwa in the restoration of the façade of the church of Our Lady of Victories in Valletta and is providing people to open the Santa Marija Tower in Comino on Sundays throughout the summer.
