As part of Opel's commitment to improve fuel efficiency in order to reduce CO2 emissions and ensure a cleaner environment, their representative in Malta, United Automobile, will be participating in Echofest, the environmental festival in Qawra this weekend.
United Automobile will display the Corsa and Astra models which boast the ecoFLEX system.
In the Opel model lines, the name ecoFLEX is given to each diesel engine variant that boasts the best fuel economy and, thereby, the lowest emissions, a spokesman for the car maker said. Opel also has the petrol equivalent to ecoFLEX, referred to as Ecotec.
The sales and marketing manager of Opel cars at United Automobile, Ryan Buttigieg said that Opel engineers have been taking the impact of cars' CO2 emissions on the environment very seriously. This led to very advanced technology to make sure that Opel cars, across the board, consume and pollute less. "This becomes extremely relevant today particularly in view of higher fuel prices and the possibility that cars may be taxed according to their emissions," Mr Buttigieg noted.
The Opel Corsa continues to top the charts in environmental credentials, the spokesman said. The newly developed 1.2 Twinport engine with 59 kW/80hp premiered in the Corsa is not only more powerful than its 75 hp 1.2-litre predecessor with conventional fuel-injection but also boasts up to 12 per cent better fuel efficiency.
However, the top fuel saver is the Corsa Eco which, with its 44 kW/60 hp 1.0 Twinport Ecotec engine, consumes 4.6 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres (non-urban cycle), making this one of the world's most economical gasoline-powered European compact car in its class, the car maker's spokesman added.
Echofest opens today at 7 p.m. near Ta' Fra Ben in Qawra. Today, Opel will sponsor the 34U concert which sees tenor Aldo Busuttil performing alongside the University Junior College Orchestra under the musical direction of Manoel Pirotta.
As supporters of the 34U campaign, Opel will plant a tree in the name of every customer who takes a test drive of an ecoFlex diesel or Ecotec petrol Opel until August 31. Test drives can be booked at the United Automobile showroom in Abate Rigord Street, Ta' Xbiex, on 2132 0560 or via e-mail info@unitedautomobile.com.mt.
