The government recently appointed a new committee of experts to draft a national strategy for the reduction of emissions, in keeping with Malta's international commitments. The committee first met on June 26, and it is planned that a draft will be presented for the government's consideration within 20 weeks. The information was given by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi in reply to a parliamentary question by Evarist Bartolo (MLP).

Mr Bartolo was asking what concrete steps the government would be taking over the next five years to nudge Malta towards a low carbon economy, in view of the fact that greenhouse emissions in the country were increasing instead of decreasing.
