Wenzu Mintoff eyes party presidency

Wenzu Mintoff, education secretary of the MLP, said today he will be a candidate for the post of party president.

He said the post would offer him the opportunity to further commit himself to the part at the strategy level.

Dr Mintoff is a former Labour MP who, together with Toni Abela, was dismissed from the party by the disciplinary board over criticism the two had made.

He joined Alternattiva Demokratika but later returned to the MLP fold and has been prominent on the Labour media.

Dr Abela last month was elected deputy leader for party affairs.
