Obituary
ANDREWS. DORIS née Barbara, aged 83, passed away peacefully on June 30. She leaves to mourn her loss her devoted husband Charles, her children Dorothy and her husband William Buttigieg, Margaret and Andrew and his wife Angele née Borg and her grandchildren Bobby, Lisa and David. Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at St Mary's parish church, Birkirkara, tomorrow at 8.30 a.m. followed by interment at Mosta cemetery. No flowers but donations to Dar tal-Providenza would be greatly appreciated.
AZZOPARDI. On June 30, at Sir Paul Boffa Hospital, MARK, aged 50, passed away peacefully after a long illness, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved Sylvia, his children Charlotte and Daniel, his mother Molly, his brothers Peter, Adrian and Paul and their respective partners Marie Jose, Elmira and Jackie, his children's mother Pauline, his relatives and countless friends. Very special thanks to all the doctors and nursing staff at Sir Paul Boffa Hospital for their dedicated care. The funeral leaves Sir Paul Boffa Hospita, tomorrow at 9 a.m. for the parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, Naxxar, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. BONETT. On June 30, at Mater Dei Hospital, MARY of Valletta, aged 68, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her irreplaceable loss her daughters Stephanie and her husband Bernard, Josianne and her husband Lawrence, her two loving grandsons Francesco and Matteo, her sister Lucy and her husband Joe, her brothers Tony and his wife Antonia of America, and Joe of Canada, her nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8 a.m. for the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Valletta, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. FARRUGIA. On June 30, ANTONIO, of Msida residing at Guardamangia, aged 81, passed away peacefully at Mater Dei Hospital, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his sons Remigio and his wife Jane, Joseph and his wife Ann, his daughters MaryRose and her husband Victor Scerri, Marion and her husband Ivan Caruana, his sisters, his grandchildren, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 7.30 a.m. for St Joseph parish church, Msida, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8 a.m. followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. VELLA. On June 30, MICHAEL k/a Kelinu, of Mellieħa, aged 70, ex-proprietor of Farlex Bar Armier, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his wife Connie, his daughter Josephine and her husband Paul, his son Ronald his nieces Janet, Andie and Stevie, his sisters and brothers Luċija and her husband Ruman, Marija and her husband Vince of Canada, Frances, Joe and his wife Annie, John and his wife Anna, his sister-in-law Marija, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.30 p.m. for Marija Bambina parish church, Mellieħa, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.30 p.m. followed by interment at Mellieħa cemetery. VELLA. On June 28, at Karin Grech Hospital, PAUL of Mellieħa, widower of Mary, née Baldacchino, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church, close to his 96th birthday. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved children Mary, John, Charlie, Tony, Joe and Paul and their wives, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his brother John Mary and his sister Marianne, nephews, nieces and friends. R.I.P. The funeral took place yesterday.
Requiem Masses
Today being the first month since the passing away of VINCENT ATTARD at the Holy Family Home, Naxxar, on June 1, the 6.30 p.m. Mass being said at the Capuchin church, Xemxija, will be offered for the repose of his soul. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend and to remember him in their prayers. May he rest in peace.
A Mass for the repose of the soul of MARY DEMARCO, née Borg Costanzi, will be celebrated tomorrow at 6.30 p.m. at St Joseph School, Blata l-Bajda, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of her death. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Tomorrow being the second anniversary of the passing away of PAUL MIFSUD, a Mass for the repose of his soul will be said at 6.45 p.m. at the Mother of Good Counsel parish church, Paceville. Fondly remembered by his children Ronald, Norman and Derek and their respective families. May God grant him eternal rest.

Police activities
The police station at Cospicua will be open to the public today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Also today at 8.30 p.m., the police precision drill team and the dog section will be presenting displays at Cospicua Square.
The Malta Police Band, police motorcyclists and the mounted section will also be in attendance.
The open day at the station and displays are part of a programme of activities being organised by the Police Corps to mark the 194th anniversary since its foundation.
Mass for cancer patients
Mass will be celebrated on Friday at the Collegiate Church of St Paul Shipwrecked, Valletta at 6.30 p.m. to close the novena of St Michael of All Saints, patron of cancer patients.

Red Cross volunteers
The Malta Red Cross - First Malta Branch has issued a call for volunteers to form part of the disaster response team and to take part in first aid posts during the summer months.
Those in possession of a valid basic first aid certificate will be able to start volunteering immediately while those who do not have a first aid certificate will be able to attend a Red Cross first aid course.
A meeting for those interested will be held at Boffa Hospital in Floriana tomorrow at 4.30 p.m.
Those wishing to become volunteers but who do not have first aid training would be able to start a course on the same day at the same place at 5 p.m.
The course fee is €50 (Lm21.50), which will be refunded to those participants who give 40 hours of voluntary service with the branch during 2008.
As the number of persons who can take part in the course is limited, acceptance is on a first come basis. Applicants must be over 16.

Piano master classes in Italy
Master classes in piano studies will be held at the University Suor Orsola Benincasa, in Naples, Italy between October and May. The course is open to graduate and non-graduate pianists of all ages. Applications should reach the rector by not later than September 1.
Meanwhile, the XV Competition for Young Orchestra Directors in EU member states will be held in Spoleto, Italy between October 4 and 10. The competition is open to citizens of the European Union under 35 years of age on September 30. Applications should reach the secretariat of the competition in Rome by not later than September 20.

Mission Fund barbecue
The Mission Fund will hold a barbecue in aid of Proġett Tama, the building of a school in Tanzania, on July 12 at Rabat at 8 p.m.
Tickets sell at €12 (Lm5.15) for adults and €6 (Lm2.58) for children, with a choice of beef, pork or fish, and can be obtained from Joe Mifsud by calling 9926 2626 or Sylvia Ebejer by calling 9945 8350.
The ticket also entitles the holder to a lottery draw.
Fund-raising by Horse Rescue Association
The Funny Farm Horse Rescue Association will hold a fund-raising barbecue at its horse sanctuary in Bidnija on Saturday from 8.30 p.m.
At present the association has 24 horses under its care. The activity is open to all and a €10 donation will be appreciated. A veggie menu will also available, besides the usual BBQ food. Anyone interested can call Sue Arnett on 9948 7915.
The association also offers one-hour horse riding lessons. But for now, due to the heat, the lessons are available during the week from about 6.30 to 8.30 pm. The lessons are only available to a maximum of four students at one time to provide a fair amount of individual attention and effective teaching.
To participate in these lessons the association is asking for a €12 donation per student which goes towards the upkeep of the sanctuary for rescued horses.
Individual (one-to-one) lessons are also available against a donation of €18 per student. Lessons are on a first come, first served basis. Those interested to attend should give three days notice so that the booking may be processed. One may also book more than one lesson per week.
