Two 18-year-olds return stolen money
Two 18-year-old Englishmen were yesterday conditionally discharged for one year after they admitted to stealing €230 (Lm98.71) from a bar in Paceville.
Daniel Jack Hennessy and Reece Alfred Borg, residing in Birżebbuġa, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Michael Mallia to stealing the cash from Stilleto Bar on Saturday at 3.30 a.m.
The court heard Police Inspector Martin Sammut say that the money had been returned to the bar owner and that he had wanted to waive criminal proceedings against the two.
Before handing down judgment Magistrate Mallia took into consideration the fact that the two men had fully cooperated with the police.
Police Inspectors Trevor Micallef and Martin Sammut prosecuted.
Lawyer Chris Cardona appeared for the men.

Oh for heaven's sake, how pedantic, Mr Pace! You obviously know little or nothing about 18-year-old boys, except for once having been one yourself (and I doubt even that). Leave those kids alone. They're not going to grow up to be mass murderers. A lot more harm would be done to them by sending them to jail or frightening them out of their wits. And this when the police are beating up people in public....

The fact that the two thieves returned the money and coopersted with the police doesn't make the crime less serious. we could be sending the wrong message here. be careful you don't get caught but if you do, cooperate and you'll get a suspended sentence. It's a win win situation for the thief.
