'Drunk' denies injuring another man near Tiguglio

A Sudanese national was yesterday granted bail against a personal guarantee of €1,000 (Lm 429.18) after he pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring another man.

Daniel Haile Tesfamihret, 24, currently residing in Birkirkara, denied causing grievous bodily harm to Abraham Ghebre Michael Brhane in an incident near Tiguglio in St Julians early on Sunday.

Magistrate Michael Mallia heard Police Inspector Martin Sammut tell the court that the accused had wanted to get inside a building, where there was a party, to get his wife out of there.

The court heard how Mr Tesfamihret was drunk and fought with one of the guests who did not allow him into the venue. He left but returned and an argument ensued. The victim was discharged from hospital yesterday morning.

Police Inspectors Martin Sammut and Trevor Micallef prosecuted.

Lawyer Anthony Cutajar appeared as legal aid to the man.
