An AFM patrol boat and a rescue launch this afternoon assisted a sailing yacht which issued a May Day call when some 15 miles off Grand Harbour.

Informed sources said the 45-foot Pellican Five has started taking in water after trouble with one of its shafts.

One of the patrol boats went alongside and helped the crew pump out the water and the yacht was then towed to Marsamxett for emergency repairs.
