AD praises energy report

Alternattiva Demokratika has congratulated the Today Public Policy Institute and the author George Debono on the publication of the report Towards A Low Carbon Society: The Nation's Health, Energy Security and Fossil Fuels.

AD said it has no doubt that this publication will be of considerable assistance in further pressuring the public authorities to introduce measures aimed at curbing the use of cars and moving custom to public transport.

AD spokesman on sustainable development and local government Carmel Cacopardo welcomed the emphasis made in the report on the need to use eco-taxation as an instrument to change public behaviour.

Mr Cacopardo said the bus owners realise that the rising cost of fuel has brought on a crisis. This was an opportunity for the community to reduce its dependence on private cars and make use of public transport.
