A 26-year-old woman was today charged in court with defiling a 16 year old girl by allegedly forcing her to prostitute herself in the past months.

The woman, from Birzebbuga, pleaded not guilty to defilement, participating in a sexual act with the minor, the involvement in running a brothel and threatening and insulting the girl.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke, who presided over the arraignment, ordered a ban on the names of both the accused and the minor. The woman was remanded in police custody.

Police Inspector Raymond Aquilina prosecuted.
