Paul Magro, 35 of Birzebbuga was this afternoon handed a two-year jail sentence suspended for four years after he admitted before Magistrate Doreen Clarke of stealing cash from three hotels.

The latest incident happened yesterday at the Maritim hotel in Mellieha, after which the police managed to trace his getaway car to Birzebbugia.

He also admitted to theft of £149 from a hotel in Qawra last October and theft of between €230 and€2,300 from another hotel in Mellieha between November and January.

The suspended jail term is conditional on the accused following a drug rehabilitation programme, and a four year supervision order.

In a separate case, Rita Cassar, 53 from Marsa was handed a probation order for two years for stealing cash to the detriment of five guests ay 115 The Strand Hotel and a jewellery from the Topaz Hotel in Bugibba. .
