Admits assaulting policemen
Suleiman Ismail Abubaker, 27, a resident of St Paul’s Bay, was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment suspended for two years after he admitted before a court this afternoon to having assaulted or resisted the police, threatened them and damaged their property in an incident in St Julian's last night.
He was also ordered to pay €300 for damages within six months.

Not only that, but any foreigner who infringes the law such as in the above-mentioned example should be deported even if they were granted refugee or humanitarian status.

The law in this country needs to a revolutionary shake-up. Traditionally the right of property ownership has been sacrosanct here and the laws reflect that. The defence of property ownership at the cost of human respect dates back to the dark ages when protection of possessions was tantamount to survival. In Malta people convicted of stealing are sent to prison. Yet assault and battery, which are so much more serious than stealing, are treated so lightly. To assault a police officer and get away virtually scot free is ludicrous. Our priorities are back to front. It is high time that our archaic concept of what is bad and what is worse are reviewed in the light of modern realities.
