Obituary

BORG. On June 25, at Gozo General Hospital, Victoria, MARIA, née Farrugia, aged 85, widow of Julian, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her great loss her children Antoinette and her husband Domenic Fenech, George and his wife Angela, Saviour and his wife Doreen, Tony and his wife Dr Mary DeBono Borg, her grandchildren Ella Marie, Franny, Julian, Samara, James, Chris, John Paul, Alexander and David, her sister Luigia Dimech, her brothers George and Emanuel, brothers and sister-in-law, numerous nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Gozo General Hospital today at 3.30 p.m. for Fontana parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 4 p.m., followed by interment at St Mary Cemetery, Victoria.

CHETCUTI. On June 27, at Mater Dei Hospital, ANTONIA of Rabat, aged 83, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Charles, widower of Miriam, Carmen, widow of her son Joe, Emanuel, widower of Bernardette, Paul and his wife Silvia, Carmen and her husband Paul Schembri, grandchildren, their spouses and great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 8.30 a.m. for Ta' Ġieżu church, Rabat, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Margherita Cemetery, Rabat. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated.

IMBROLL. On June 26, FREDA of Sliema, residing at San Ġwann, aged 59, passed away peacefully at her residence, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her irreplaceable loss her husband Anthony, her children Manuel, Andrei and his wife Daria, Marilena and her fiancé Maarten, and Fabio and his wife Maria, her siblings Tony, Rose and her husband Noel, Joe and Ramon and his wife Marika, her parents-in-law Henry and Carmela, her in-laws Mario, Catherine and her husband Henry, Anna and her husband Paul, Louise and her husband Michael, all her nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Monday, June 30 at 1.30 p.m. for San Ġwann parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. May the Lord grant her eternal rest. Special thanks go to Josephine, Anna and Ray, Rita, John and Doris, Silvio and Aloysia, Jean Pierre and Nathalie and Carmelo who helped all the family during her long illness.

TANTI. On June 26, HENRY of Rabat, aged 27, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his parents John and Doris, his brothers David and his fiancée Daphne, Edward, James and Mark, relatives and friends. European qualification framework meeting

The Malta Qualifications Council will hold an information meeting on the European Qualification Framework on Wednesday at 3.30 p.m.

The meeting is aimed at directors and the management of public and private training institutions.

Ordination anniversary

Mass will be celebrated on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the Episcopal ordination of Bishop Emanuel Galea at the Iklin parish church on July 5 at 6 p.m.

Tax return deadline extended

The deadlines for submission of the income tax return and self-assessment and the payment of any resultant balance for 2007 has been extended to July 31, the government said yesterday.

EU Funding for Education Programmes

The European Union Programmes Agency (EUPA) has awarded beneficiaries and institutions that participated in the Life Long Learning Programmes which benefited from European Union funds. Approximately €560,000 (Lm240,343.35) in funding were allotted to the Erasmus programme and €360,000 (Lm154.506.44) for 19 projects under the Leonardo da Vinci programme.

New centre for Senglea Athletic Nursery

A centre for the young members and coaches of the Senglea Athletic Football Nursery has just been inaugurated. The opening ceremony was attended by guests including Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, Minister for Education, Youth and Sport Dolores Cristina and FA president Joe Mifsud.

Stephen Spiteri, head of the Senglea Nursery, said his dream from the start of his presidency had been to see that Senglea youngsters enjoy and entertain themselves in a healthy environment.

Summer Party

Round Table Malta will be holding a mega summer party in aid of Puttinu Cares, on July 5 at 7 p.m. at the Splash and Fun park in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq with an after party at Sky Club. Tickets, available from all Remax offices, sell for €10 (Lm4.29) and €20 (Lm8.58) and are restricted to people aged between 18 and 45.

Song for Astana

Paul Giordimaina and Eleanor Cassar will be singing at an event in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. The concert is a celebration to mark a decade since the city gained status as the nation's capital.

Selected composers and authors from Kazakhstan and other countries have been asked to write a song about Astana which could then be used as a national song to represent Kazakhstan.

Maltese composer Paul Giordimaina and author Fleur Balzan received a special invitation to write the song and created a duet entitled The Envy Of The World.

Meeting on children's manifesto

The next public discussion on the Manifesto for Children will be held on Wednesday from 5.30 until 7.30 p.m. at the Office of the Commissioner for Children, Ċentru Ħidma Soċjali, 469, St Joseph High Road, Sta Venera. It will focus on Children And The Law.

The Office of the Commissioner for Children invites non-governmental organisations, the public, parents and children, to be present for the discussion, and make recommendations on how to improve the situation of children in this regard.

Summer flute lessons

The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce is offering private flute lessons for beginners. Designed to cover the entire spectrum of basic techniques, the lessons aim to provide a firm foundation for progress while covering a wide repertoire of flute music. Students will also be able to perform in duos and groups. The cost of the course, which consists of nine 45/60 minute lessons is €37.27 and classes will run between July and September.
