In his haste Charles reinforced my way of thinking unless his language structure deceives me.

First of all there is nothing wrong with restructuring the Vigilance Board to modern times but in so doing one should not reverse the 'purifying process' undertaken by the same board. Doing so renders the Vigilance Board ineffective and inconsequential.

Secondly why readmit the 'impurities' which the Vigilance Board was so meticulous in removing in the first place?

Thirdly, is the Vigilance Board itself satisfied that the individuals involved have rehabilitated themselves to an acceptable 'pure' level?

Fourthly, Mr Buttigieg wrote, "Labour is different in a sense that, unlike the PN some of its former cabinet ministers had become corrupt.". I take it that Mr Buttigieg has accepted the notion that some former Labour ministers had become corrupt (?). I am not so sure that CJ really meant that, but if he did, why readmit previously corrupt ministers? What was unacceptable then has become acceptable now? The quote was CJ's own words. I never mentioned former Labour ministers let alone hinted at any allegations of corruption, although others may disagree.

Charles Buttigieg – ABC is nauseatingly condescending when it comes to language howlers because his level of English is pretty good. Yours on the other hand isn’t, which is why your pathetic attempt at English teaching backfired rather badly.
i) ‘attack’ is not ‘attach’
ii) There’s a big difference between ‘psyche’ and ‘psycho’
Oh, and ‘revert to’ requires the gerund – ‘you may revert to …..ing’
Please note that there’s only so much that ‘spell check’ can do. Try brown-nosing in a language you are familiar with next time.

“Does this not seem like treatment of children” Your observation is a literal translation from Maltese to English. Treatment of children is normally found in hospitals or other health centres. Had I shared your view I would have remarked that ‘this seems childish’ Elementary Mr.Camilleri . Consider yourself lucky for my kind remark, had you been a Labour Little elf ABC would have fallen on you like a ton of bricks.

Another kind observation if you don’t mind.......If your assessment on people’s psycho is as good as your translation of Maltese phrases to English your psycho analysis will leave much to be desired. Joseph is the Leader of the Party answerable to the General Conference; the Board of Vigilance is an autonomous body also answerable to the conference only. And, yes it can say no to the Leader. Ask Tony Abela a former President of the Party, he lived that experience.

You may revert to hit me back, it seems to be a tendency to use attach as a form of defence especially by people who are trying to find faults in Joseph Muscat, our Knight in shining armour.

@ Joe Martinelli.The Board of Vigilance was constituted at a time when Labour was honest enough to realise that absolute power corrupts absolutely and had successfully cleansed the party. Labour is different in a sense that, unlike the PN some of its former cabinet ministers had become corrupt. At least this is according to the gospel of Joe Martinelli. Now is the time to revisit the importance of this board and to restructure it to modern times.

Labour is a truly democratic party however it is not as pure, righteous and above any public suspicion. Those noble virtues are only enjoyed by Joe Martinelli’s fraternity of Gonzipn. Due to this sad situation, Labour would need some sort of code of ethics with a regulatory body. Gonzipn are lucky they belong to anarchy and are blessed with people like JPO.

Saddest fact is that Joe Martinelli has problems to realise that, very much like Jason Micallef and Jeffrey Pullicino-Orlando, he is the only person who gives some credit to his argie-bargies.

Amnesty is sometimes a good thing. Some even think that a Presidential pardon for the Brazillian who was found guilty of importing 2 kilos of coicaine to murder our youth, was a good thing too. So , to all you PN supporters who think that their party has never done anything wrong , when you are in a glass house stop and think before you start throwing stones.

@Ivan Camilleri - to judge by the emerging, more liberal and pro-EU 'neo-MLP' (although they fail to convince me to be honest) - it seems clear that DoctorSant would have been more appropriately called DictatorSant. Apparently this guy stuck to the helm for ages and although his policies and ideas weren't exactly popular, no one had the bees to face up to him. Although - wait a minute! There were many who did just that and were subsequently punished by the party inquisition. Well at least now they're getting an amnesty (what a term!). And the others just clapped and cheered - exactly. And after they jeopardised and stalled our country's progress, now they're embracing the EU and admitting they were wrong. "Imbasta ivvutaw le!" Just imagining Malta being out of the EU when now even countries like Romania and Bulgaria are in (with all due respect) - gives me the shudders. Grudges are awful, but after the 'Partnership' and all the yada yada unless the neo-MLP manages to stay consistent for a full ten year period, they can forget about me even considering giving them my vote. That's a tough test, so good luck!

I do not know why I bother to write. Fortunately I am a diehard puppet of neither party. And in all elections diehards have no say. The two factions more or less equate each other.

At least I have a say.

Attitude changes everything overnight. It is amazing!

Same as any leader, some, only some of what A.Sant said or claimed turns out to be true. However his attitude, direction and vision was unacceptable to me and many independent voters. So we simply had no choice but to look the other way. And there was only one other way.

Now at least it can be said that independent voters have a choice of two out of the two powers we have available to vote for. Remember that as things stand, whoever is elected has almost absolute power in Malta.

Now if Gonzi delivers loads less indirect taxes and follows his promises through with integrity - we will vote Gonzi again.

If not - we can look the other way, this time.

I honestly hope that the MLP will not adopt a pathetic political mentality like yours.

What about JPO? - This politician/journalist for a day/part-time farmer/dentist should call it a day and resign his parliamentary seat, thus doing a good deed to the PN, Malta and whoever voted for him. I do feel sorry for him, but I really can't see another way out.

The Board of Vigilance was a need to control those few within the Party who were corrupt and/or violent. After all it was this Board which cleaned Labour.

I think that in today's reality it would be more appropriate to have some kind of committee focusing on mediation. It would be better if such a committee would be made up of people with experince / academic background in mediation.

@ Ivan Camilleri....Sant made Labour win in 1996. He also modernised the Party. He also brought more transperancy and integirty to maltese politics. Sant did not just make politicians within Labour to move out, but also some in PN. As you might have noticed, some politicians who had been singled-out for being corrupt didn't do very well in the last election (with the exception of saint Jeffrey)

You forgot to mention the imposed Alfred Sant/MLP departure tax that is going to be scrubbed.

Sure, Joseph is making a difference. I cannot wait for the next election. Joseph Muscat being the "Poster Boy" of the PN's campaing. Everytime that Joseph Muscat is shown on TV it is a reminder of what the PN have meant for Malta.

Let me get this straight.
The Vigilance Board is a group of people within the MLP machine put together to dole out discipline to those who do not toe the party line, right?
So, they did their deeds over many years castigating many and possibly ruining someone's political advancement.
Then comes 'call me Joseph' and with one swift stroke of a pen erases all that the Vigilance Board did over time. Were they right or wrong in their past decisions?
Why, then, may I ask, did Joseph not make someone bring a motion at the Party's General Meeting recommending the abolishment of the Vigilance Board? In his eyes, he perceives the board as useless.
If Joseph made them give amnesty I doubt whether it was within his jurisdiction to do so. If, on the other hand he recommended they follow his advice and they agreed, did they not sign their own death warrant?

What a pathetic party.....Dancing to the tune of times as they please......
We had Sant who practically was the man responsible for the division of a nation, attacking everyone & everything in sight. His followers clapped, cheered & approved all he did at the time.Now we have Muscat who is the new Messiah, saying that the party (in just 3hrs after being named leader) is a united & impregnable party......People fail to remember that this man was in MLP's executive & other top posts within the party since 1994!! Please can you state once & for all what kind of mentality will u b adopting? What was Sant doin properly there in these 16 years? By the way Muscat is changing practically everything the answer is just & clear......NOTHING!!!

The vigilance board is nothing more than an anachronism intended only to subdue those who do not toe the party line. Much in line with the law on foreign inerference way back in the seventies! Thank God the PN has been in government these past twenty years.

The only appropriate thing for the MLP Vigilance Board to do is to end its' own existence. There is no room for such a body within a political party in todays society.

Just wonder why the MLP is stuck in the past.
