Obituary

AGIUS. On June 10, at London Hospital, White Chapel, MICHAEL WILLIAM (Lofti) of Paola, aged 51, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss Anne, his children Monica, Melanie, Maria, Christopher and Michael, his father Michael, his grandson Tommie Lee, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives, especially his cousin Erminia, and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 2.15 p.m. for Christ the King parish church, Paola, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.45 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

BORG. On June 25, at the Gozo General Hospital, MARIA née Farrugia, aged 85, widow of Julian, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her great loss, her children Antoinette and her husband Dominic Fenech, George and his wife Angela, Saviour and his wife Doreen, Tony and his wife Dr Mary DeBono Borg, her grandchildren Ella Marie, Franny, Julian, Samara, James, Chris, John Paul, Alexander and David, her sister Luigia Dimech, her brothers George and Emanuel, brothers and sister-in-law, numerous nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Gozo General Hospital tomorrow at 3.30 p.m. for Fontana parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 4 p.m. followed by interment at St Mary Cemetery, Victoria.

IMBROLL. On June 26, FREDA of Sliema, residing at San Ġwann, aged 59, passed away peacefully at her residence, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her irreplaceable loss her husband Anthony, her children Manuel, Andrei and his wife Daria, Marilena and her fiancé Maarten, and Fabio and his wife Maria, her siblings Tony, Rose and her husband Noel, Joe and Ramon and his wife Marika, her parents-in-law Henry and Carmela, her in-laws Mario, Catherine and her husband Henry, Anna and her husband Paul, Louise and her husband Michael, all her nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Monday June 30 at 1.30 p.m. for San Ġwann parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m. followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. May the Lord grant her eternal rest. Special thanks go to Josephine, Anna and Ray, Rita, John and Doris, Silvio and Aloysia, Jean Pierre and Nathalie and Carmelo who helped all the family during her long illness.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Filomena, his children Jimmy and his wife Joyce, Joe and his wife Josephine, Michael and his wife Rita, Mary and her husband Louis, residing in Australia, Victor and his wife Michelle, Rita and her husband Stephen, his 13 grandchildren, his sister Maria and her husband John Mary, his sister-in-law Maria, widow of his brother Joseph, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 4 p.m. for St Mary's parish church, Mġarr, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said 4.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Mġarr cemetery. Shooting for charity

The Paola Clay Shooting Club is holding a competition at the shooting range in Birżebbuġa on Sunday at 9 a.m. in order to raise funds for Francesca Cassar, an infant who requires medical treatment abroad. A training session will also be held tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Search for Hair of the Year

Pantene has launched the second nationwide search for the Pantene Hair of the Year, following last year's success.

Local model experts fronted the search and over the past six weeks have been scouting the islands for potentials. The 12 finalists are Becky Zammit, Daniela Debattista, Estelle Abela, Ilaria Falzon, Ilona Attard, Jessica Micallef, Inna Kochilava, Kim Borg Nicolas, Lynne Satariano, Mariosa Caruana, Martina Borg and Rachel Gauci. The winner will win a year's contract with www.models. com, a cover and fashion shoot with FM and a weekend break at the Fortina Spa Resort.

The winner will be announced during a gala event on July 16.

Public voting on www.models. com will be open for one week prior to the gala event.

Choral concert

The New Choral Singers will perform Songs For Summer on July 7.

Led by conductor Robert Calleja, the concert will feature international compositions to celebrate musical cultures from around the world.

Songs For Summer is an annual event in the choir's calendar to welcome the season with varied items that appeal to an audience of all ages.

This year promises a repertoire of both sacred and secular compositions and journeys three continents with music ranging from the mediaeval to modern era. The 45-strong choir will be accompanied by pianist Romina Morrow, with a solo from bass Albert Buttigieg.

The concert will be held at the central courtyard of Auberge d'Italie (MTA offices), Valletta at 9 p.m. and forms part of the Malta Arts Festival 2008. Entrance is free.

Bay Street performance

The Cirencester Deer Park School Jazz Band and the Alley Cats Clarinet Choir will be performing at the Bay Street Complex on Sunday.

The Cirencester Deer Park School Jazz Band has already toured Europe, playing at Lido di Jesolo in 2003 and 2006, in Paris in 2004 and Barcelona in 2005. The Jazz Band performs a varied repertoire that includes a variation of jazz, traditional blues, swing and more modern pieces.

The Alley Cats Clarinet Choir was formed in 1993 by their present conductor, Helen Perry. Its members come from various schools around Sheffield and meet once a week at the Bannerdale Centre. They range in age from 14 to 18 and are the senior of four clarinet choirs run by Ms Perry.

In 2002 and 2004 they had very successful tours in Tuscany where they were invited to play in the European Festival of Youth Orchestras in Florence, the first Clarinet Choir to have been invited to play in this orchestral event. In July 2006 they were based in Rovinj for a Croatian tour.

The Alley Cats are the first group ever from Sheffield Music Services to have travelled to Malta on tour.

Funds in aid of Caritas Malta will be collected during this activity which will start at 6 p.m. at the Bay Street Rotunda.

Courses in floral art

The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce is organising a number of courses on various areas of floral art on weekdays, between 8.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. from July to September, once a week for nine weeks.

The courses will cover modern to abstract floral designs, church and wedding flowers, bridal wedding bouquets, headdresses and a full floral art course.
