Notary and former Labour Party member of Parliament Sandro Schembri Adami has been jailed for two years suspended for four and generally interdicted after admitting to misappropriating €10,194 (Lm4,375) to the detriment of two people.

This is the second suspended jail term handed down to Dr Schembri Adami after in February last year he was given a two-year jail term suspended for four years and was generally interdicted after having been found guilty of forging the signature of a former employee, also a notary, on three power-of-attorney documents.

This time, Dr Schembri Adami, 44, of Valletta, admitted to misappropriating €6,423.81 (Lm 2,575) to the detriment of Helen Ciantar between December 2002 and January 2003 and misappropriating €3,751.51 (Lm 1,610) to the detriment of Mario Gauci, the director of Tas-Seraqa Ltd between February 15, 2005 and March of the same year.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano also disqualified him from practising as a notary for 10 years.

Magistrate Quintano said he had taken into consideration Dr Schembri Adami's early guilty plea and the fact that when the charges were filed, he had a clean police record.

Police Inspector Angelo Gafa prosecuted.
