Labour administration, national executive to be elected on August 4-5
The election of the new officials of the administration and national executive of the Malta Labour Party will be held on August 4-5, the party announced last night.
The national executive agreed that an extraordinary general conference be called on those days after a proposal to this effect was moved by party leader Joseph Muscat and approved unanimously.
During the same conference, the party will discuss an amendment to the party statute referring to the choice of candidates for the election of members to the European Parliament.

Joseph Muscat never ceases to amaze me with his vigorous display of enthusiasm to open the doors to allow the sweet smell of fresh air in the party. Now, ably aided by Anglu Farrugia and Toni Abela, the leadership has to be congratulated on the last courageous move.
The ball will soon be in the delegates’ court, they will need to adjudicate each and every contestant, sway away from personal sympathies or artificial images of competence and judge the contestants on their merits and their past performance.
As an old time campaigner I urge our delegates to be aware of the power of some holding office to date, confidence tricksters are dangerous and hard to detect. More to the point, a change is as good as a holiday, proof of that is the wise choice of our shining star Joseph.
Labour led by Joseph Muscat is proving that it's an inclusive party with a working space for everyone within an ambience of fair play and a spirit of competition based on meritocracy. Never the less, condoning tricks and selfish personal campaigns by proved incompetents with a gift to sell themselves cosmetically and effectively is not on our leader's agenda.

Well, all eyes will now focus on the 'top' job of General Secretary of the MLP. Will the delegates vote for change and a reliable and experienced person to take over this very important post instead of the Pepsodent Syndrome. I truly hope so because the Party needs such a change. In my humble opinion, Alfred Grixti is the most suited for this job. He is a party man through and through, has respect from all quarters, is academically and politically qualified for such a job and has a proven career record to boast about. No surprizes in that department!
