Consultation document on recognition of informal training

Education Minister Dolores Cristina this morning launched a consultation document that will open the path to the validation of informal learning.

The document - Valuing All Learning: Frameworks for the validation of informal and non-formal learning in Malta – was compiled by the Malta Qualifications Council as the first step towards establishing, on a national level, the recognition of those skills and competences learnt throughout life and not through formal educational structures.

The document was launched during a business breakfast for education stakeholders.

The minister explained that not every one was prone to academic or completes formal education. However many of these people acquire skills which they use for a living.

Such skills ought to be validated through the setting up of structures and legislation. This would ultimately encourage life-long learning and make people more employable. This would benefit the employer, employee and the economy. The consultation document aims to prepare formal structures that recognise the visible evidence of invisible learning.
