A 33-year-old man was yesterday jailed for 14 months after he pleaded guilty to stealing jewellery from a house in Gżira belonging to an elderly lady.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke heard Brian Mallia admit to stealing over €2,239 (Lm 1,000) worth of gold items on February 22, 2005 from the elderly woman's home. He also admitted to causing damage to the house and relapsing.

Police Inspector Anthony Portelli prosecuted.
