Industrial action by bio-medical engineering staff at Mater Dei

The bio-medical engineering staff at Mater Dei Hospital are not making use of any means of communication, including e-mails, intranet, mobiles, pagers, faxes and telephones.

The Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin ordered the action last week after a meeting with the health authorities failed to broker a solution over an impasse within the section.

The directives became effective as of yesterday. The dispute revolves around the distribution of technical support staff working grades and the filling of a number of vacancies, an issue that has been pending for a year.

The union does not exclude escalating the industrial action if the situation is not given the attention it deserves, union section secretary Edwin Balzan said.
