Bullying in state schools

A total 186 cases of bullying were reported in public schools last year, Education Minister Dolores Cristina said.

Answering a parliamentary question by Labour MP Leo Brincat the minister said that the same number was reported in 2006; 181 in 2005; 174 in 2004 and 118 in 2003. She said the department had anti-bullying services programmes with trained teachers to provide support in such situations. The schools also had 134 guidance teachers and 17 counsellors who carried out professional interventions in such cases.
