Bridge costs still being worked out

It has been opened to traffic, but the bills for the Manuel Dimech Bridge have still to be worked out. Transport Minister Austin Gatt told Parliament yesterday that the rebuilding of the bridge had been calculated by ADT experts to cost €5.4 million.

Transport Minister Austin Gatt told Parliament yesterday that the rebuilding of the bridge had been calculated by ADT experts to cost €5.4 million. The actual contract was adjudicated at €4.6 million.

Supervisors are currently calculating the actual costs and claims by the contractors are still being evaluated.

A total of €3.06 million have been paid for the project so far.

The EU is meeting 75 percent of the costs, with the rest coming from the governemnt's coffers.
