MLP to elect new administration in August
MLP general secretary Jason Micallef.
The MLP will hold an extraordinary general conference on August 4-5 to elect a new administration and a new executive committee, the party executive decided at a meeting this evening.
The elections were due next January but have been brought forward in view of the election of the new leadership.
The most watched contest is expected to be that for the post of general secretary, with incumbent Jason Micallef expected to seek re-election.
The MLP said the holding of early elections was proposed by party leader Joseph Muscat and agreed unanimously.
The EGM will also discuss amendments to the statute on the nomination of candidates for the European Parliament elections.
The PN will hold an election for its own officials tomorrow (Friday). Two candidates, Charlo' Bonnici and Paul Borg Olivier, are in the race to succeed general secretary Joe Saliba, who is stepping down. The election will be held among the members of the party executive.

@Joe Galea.Joseph Muscat never ceases to amaze me with his vigorous display of enthusiasm to open the doors to allow the sweet smell of fresh air in the party. Now, ably aided by Anglu Farrugia and Toni Abela, the leadership has to be congratulated on the last courageous move.
The ball will soon be in the delegates’ court, they will need to adjudicate each and every contestant, sway away from personal sympathies or artificial images of competence and judge the contestants on their merits and their past performance.
As an old time campaigner I urge our delegates to be aware of the power of some holding office to date, confidence tricksters are dangerous and hard to detect. More to the point, a change is as good as a holiday, proof of that is the wise choice of our shining star Joseph.
Labour led by Joseph Muscat is proving that it's an inclusive party with a working space for everyone within an ambience of fair play and a spirit of competition based on meritocracy. Never the less, condoning tricks and selfish personal campaigns by proved incompetents with a gift to sell themselves cosmetically and effectively is not on our leader's agenda.

I hope the delegates will continue to make the right choices even in these elections. I hope they get rid of Jason Micallef.

Mr. Scerri,
Your making sound like it's the end of the world, If the Engine operatives, are ineffective they shouldn't be there from the first place. The fact that they are there, they are doing what need to done.
The ship still runs on auto pilot, as long the Diesel tanks are full.
Hope they elect a DRIVER not like the PN they have chosen the bright one and, he let them DOWN

QUOTE from article : 'The MLP said the holding of early elections was proposed by party leader Joseph Muscat and agreed unanimously.'
Let hope those elected will all share Joseph Muscat's vision of new way of doing politics and may the delegates now realise this choice with their vote .
The leader , although supreme , is the Captain of the ship but the ship is driven by the engine room operatives who must obey orders from the captain otherwise the risk of sinking will increase .
