The stretch of road near Paradise Bay, Cirkewwa, where a motorcyclist died in a traffic accident on Sunday is to be reconstructed as part of the Ten-T roads project, the Transport Authority said in reply to questions. Works are scheduled for the end of next year.

Several readers have called for the ADT to make this area safer, in view of a number of traffic fatalities in the past few years.

“In the meantime, the authority is currently conducting a road safety audit to identify hazardous locations commonly known as accident black spots across the island. The audit will also identify those road safety initiatives (including improvements in road infrastructure, technology and speed management) that will reduce casualty numbers significantly, with a particular emphasis on the reduction of fatalities by half by 2010,” the ADT said.
