The IOI-Malta Operational Centre (International Ocean Institute) of the University of Malta has decided to extend the deadline of the IOI-Kids Competitions to September 19 after receiving numerous requests from both parents and students.

The IOI-Kids Young Journalist Award requires contestants to prepare a factual article in the form of a news item that focuses on a theme related to the sea and/or the coast.

Meanwhile, The IOI-Kids Best 2008 Project urges participants to create an instructive project also focusing on the sea and/or the coast.

For each competition, participants shall be divided into two separate age groups (five to 10 and 11 to 15), for which separate prizes shall be awarded.

IOI-Kids is a website dedicated to the sea and is for primary and secondary schoolchildren and youngsters.

It offers a virtual and interactive learning experience, where viewers can increase their knowledge about the marine and coastal environment through the use of interactive games, fora, surveys, lessons, inform-ative articles and audiovisual media.

For further information about the competitions one may log onto www.ioikids.net/ioikids/news/comp2008/ or contact the IOI-Malta Operational Centre at ioi-kids@capemalta.net or on 2144 0972.
