A Sudanese national was yesterday charged with threatening two police constables and assaulting one of them over the weekend.

Mohammed Moubarark Altayeb Adam, 32, pleaded not guilty to threatening and assaulting the officers, damaging a police car, to the illegal possession of a knife and disobeying the police in St Julians on Saturday night. Magistrate Audrey Demicoli denied Mr Adam's request for bail after hearing the prosecution, led by Police Inspector Martin Sammut, argue that Mr Adam resided at the Marsa open centre and there was no guarantee of a fixed address.

Lawyer Patrick Valentino represented the defendant.
