Sudanese national Mohammed Moubarark Altayeb Adam, 32, was this morning charged with threatening two police constables and assaulting one of them in St Julians on Saturday night.

He was also charged with damaging a police car, the illegal possession of a knife and disobeying police. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli denied Mr Adam's request for bail after hearing the prosecution, led by Police Inspector Martin Sammut, argue that he resided at the Marsa open centre and there was therefore no guarantee of a fixed address.

Lawyer Patrick Valentino represented the defendant
