GWU accepts to meet government on dockyard

The GWU said this evening that it was disappointed that the government had not accepted its proposal for the creation of a task force on the future of Malta Shipyards.

It said however that it would attend meetings with Finance Minister Tonio Fenech and would make its own proposals on the shipyard in the interest of the workers.

Mr Fenech has invited the union for talks this Friday on voluntary retirement schemes aimed at reducing the workforce at the dockyard ahead of privatisation.

The union said it would continue to insist on its right to be kept informed and to be consulted on all aspects of Malta Shipyards.
