Fuel prices eating into people's income - GWU

The GWU this afternoon insisted that the government should have held consultations before the latest 'drastic' increases in fuel prices, which will have a direct impact on the people's purchasing power.

The union in a statement said that the fact that the governemnt had decided on its own was another example of how the administration was ignoring social dialogue.

The governemnt was also ignoring what it itself promised in the run-up to the general election.

The union warned that the latest increases would continue to pile upward pressure on prices and hence, on the people's pockets.

And the situation was expected to get worse when electricity prices rose, imminently.
