'MLP and AD can work together'
The Labour Party and Alternattiva Demokratika could work together within a movement for progressives and moderates, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said yesterday.
Two new leaders, Dr Muscat and Arnold Cassola, yesterday met at the MLP headquarters in Hamrun.
Dr Muscat said there were a number of areas, primarily in the social sector, which provided a basis for common action by the two parties.
Nevertheless, he acknowledged there would always be issues where the two parties failed to see eye to eye.
Dr Cassola said the experience of the two parties in EU institutions should enable them to work in a collaborative spirit. He said he hoped that the political parties could agree on the nomination of the next President.
Dr Cassola also said Malta needed to address the problems caused by rising food and oil prices.

Well said Elisa. People like John Spiteri can only see through a blue-eyed boy's spectacles. Flimkien kollox possible means nothing to him nor to the PN.
The pity is that the MLP leadership did not realise the formidable political influence of AD before the last General election. The arrogant rule then preferred to govern on their own! The result is that now the MLP have to stay in opposition for at least another 5 years.
Just hope that MLP will practically show good will before next June elections by encourgaging their voters not to leave the AD's candidate/s without any preference. The block voting worked against the PN during last MEP's election. I am sure the MLP are aware of this. Forget the promises of the PN. half of the country was shocked when Gonzi out ruled any sort of coalition with AD before the last election - (Of course during that time he was busier negotiating with the Armier squatters).
On the other hand I humbly advice AD: 'Remember you own billboard slogan: 'Juzawk u Jarmuk'

I recall AD asking its supporters to give their number 1 vote to PN in 2003... do you rememer?
AD practises what the rest of us preach - Flimkien kollox possibli.
PN pushed AD away both in 2003 and 2008 - it is good that AD has not given up on working flimkien.

MLP and AD can work together, so can PN and AD work together and PN and MLP can work together, and perhaps PN, MLP and AD all can work together for the good of our country.
Somewhere else in the media, it was reported that one of the leaders of the MLP or AD said to the other that their parties together represent the majority of the Maltese people.
Oh what interesting news. This should have captured all the headlines in papers and news bulletins in all the radio and tv stations.
During the visit to the PN headquarters by Joseph Muscat on the invitation of the Nationalist Party leader Dr. Lawrence Gonzi, this was also the case, as put together; the PN and MLP represent the majority of the Maltese people.
Most probably, the leaders of the PN and AD will shortly exchange courtesy visits. And even here, the PN and AD put together will also be representing majority of the Maltese people.
So please let us not take the Maltese people for a ride. We all have minds to think with.
