The majority of employees at the Foundation for Social Welfare Services have now received their salary, although a handful still have not had their bank accounts topped up.
Only a few employees working at Aġenzija Appoġġ have not received their salary, Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin section secretary Josef Vella told The Times yesterday.
The union ordered industrial action earlier this week after the majority of the 600 workers at Sedqa, Appoġġ, Sapport and Adult Training Centres went unpaid. They had been due to receive their June salary based on a new collective agreement, arrears owed to them and the quarterly bonus yesterday week.
Mr Vella said the arrears due have not yet been given to everyone but the Social Policy Ministry had promised the union that this would be ironed out next week. The union is expected to withdraw the industrial action.
The foundation said the problem arose after the company that handles the foundation's financial matters changed its payroll system, which contributed to delays in issuing the salaries.
The delay in payment put a number of families in a financial quandary, with some unable to meet financial obligations or make mortgage payments. The union will be calling on the foundation to pay for any fines which workers incurred because of the delay.
