Muscat-Cassola see areas for collaboration
Arnold Cassola, new leader of Alternattiva Demokratika, called on Joseph Muscat at MLP headquarters in Hamrun this morning.
Both leaders congratulated each other on their recent appointment.
Dr Muscat said the MLP and AD could work together within a movement for the progressives and the moderates. There were a number of areas, primarily in the social sector, which provided a basis for common action by the two parties.
He also observed that the MLP and AD together enjoyed the support of the majority of the people.
Dr Cassola said the experience of the two parties in EU institutions should enable them to work in a collaborative spirit. He said his aim was to work for the benefit of the country and he augured that the political parties could agree on the nomination of the next President of Malta.
Dr Cassola said Malta also needed to address the problems caused by rising food and oil prices.
Present for the meeting were MLP deputy leaders Anglu Farrugia and Toni Abela and AD deputy chairmen Stephen Cachia and Mario Mallia.

Up to early this year, AD was openly talking about a possible coalition with either PN or MLP.
MLP just kept it's mouth closed. PN clearly and openly said "no way", and did not even stop at that. It stated to one and all, including an advert on PBS that a vote for AD is a vote for for Alfred Sant. Nonetheless AD still obtained 3810 votes. Logic tells you that none of these 3810 votes belonged to PN faithful. Otherwise they would have been in clear violation of GONZIPN's chrystal clear instructions.
So what are you finding immoral in the fact that AD is seeking dialogue with the only party that has not slammed the door in it's face ? Or do you really believe that AD should be PN's waste recycling bin ?( i.e. those votes which PN is ready to waste in European and Local Council Elections and then recycle when a General Election comes. )
Now if PN wants AD's support, it's time for Gonzi to come to knock at AD's door. No need to feel ashamed. He's already done it with the Armier Shantytown citizens...

The attitudes diplayed by PN die-hards towards basically everyone else is incredibly shameful: looking down on others, a huge sense of superiority, hate, spite etc etc. Very 'European' indeed! It reflects the 'power at all (and I mean ALL) costs attitude. Cool it!

@ All PN apologists: By the way you are choking on your own venom since your government has a weak majority and any coalition of any type is of threat to this stone-crusher government.
Keep on calling everyone names, keep on hating everyone which is not blue-tinted, but it won't stop the positive wave of a new political season started by Joe Muscat and MLP. We are fed up of the current political stale situation set up by the PN.

AD are a party in their own right and do not need to join the MLP. They can work together on issues which is what mature political parties do. After all that is what AD and PN did in 2003 when it came to the EU referendum.

Lets see who can solve this easy riddle------
.....he's from Sliema....a green supporter of the first order...still an AD Local Council member.............writes articles but never refers to himself as an AD spokesman.......and on Xarabank said that in the last election voted MLP...................Who is the guy?
...............funny how the AD buried this "incident" completely.......I wonder

Joseph Muscat should also bury the MLPN unholy agreement of having a 16% undemocratic national threshold.

How cute? This smells like an 'Unione' coalition in the offing. Our local Veltroni teaming up with our local Pecoraro Scanio. God forbid.

Well done Prof Cassola for calling on MLP's new Leader, Dr.Muscat. Each and every one of us may have different political views but all parties can work together where common views are shared. Both AD, MLP and PN have the responsability to join arms and work together where necessary for the benefit of all Maltese citizens. MLP and PN should follow AD's footsteps by delivering clear and consistent messages regarding their policies and intentions (raising their voice in favour of social and environmental justice without being restraint by any lobby group) while being ready to co-operate with their other parties.
Working together reflects political maturity and not defeat as some may percieve.

This is the best photograph I have seen in the media for some time now. May it be, as I suppose it to be, a harbinger of better times to come.

Arnold Cassola is no fool. he is a political opportunist of the first order. He proved that in readily abandoning his potential constituents were he elected in Malta by promptly contesting elections in Italy. Now he is courting the MLP.
A vote for AD was always a vote for the MLP - now it if you ever need proof just pin the photo above to your fridge door!
What is it exactly that AD stands for? ________________ I thought so!

I see that some people didn't like this news. I ask...why? Have you never heard about something like this happening abroad? Infact, it is happening everywhere around us!

This could have easily happened if Jason knew how to read his polls 4 months ago. But it seemed that MLP wanted to do it alone.
There is still a chance. Hope MLP learned their lessons. We will see what will happen in the next local and EP election.

I fully agree with Mr Buttigieg's comments. It s a fact that Muscat and together represent the MAJORITY of the Maltese who voted in the last election thus together they can really claim to be the voice of what the MAJORITY of Maltese wants.

Could this be the begining of the end for the AD.
Also, both gentleman are forgetting the many of that stayed home in protest. Certainly for sure, if other minded peoiple like me, if we wanted to support the MLP or AD we would have went out and voted for one of the other non PN canditates.
For the MLP and AD to say that together they the support of the majority of the Maltese is indeed incorrect. We do not the MLP and the AD to pull another Jason Micallef miscue in that this time both the MLP and the AD do not know how many actually there are voters in Malta.

This is nothing new. The fact that in the last election AD has put all its efforts in Nationalists' leaning areas is prove enough where AD's heart beats . As an ex member of the Italian Parliament who took part in the election of President Napolitano, I think that the Government can do without Arnold's advice when electing our next President.

Dr Muscat, if you want a fresh start for Labour get squaters off public land and fight illegal construction, I mean really fight it, then youll get the peoples support, youll surely get mine,
I`m not MLP or PN supporter, I`m just a maltese citizen who`s fed up of injustices but doesnt want to be a political party`s possession.
Its not I scratch your back you scratch mine, its i do my duty and pay my taxes and everybody else should do the same
I hope you dont fit the maltese politician stereotype and do whats just

There isn’t one single issue which forbids the two parties to work together in perfect harmony. Time is ripe for an alliance MLP-AD which will give a strong voice in parliament to AD and the absolute majority of people’s support to the coalition. Cassola and Muscat can make this happen and that will enhance Joseph Muscat efforts for a new political season.
