The Maltese-Australian swimmer Ryan Gambin, who will be representing Malta at the Beijing Olympics in August, has claimed three more national records after he had set four new limits during the Luxembourg Championships last weekend.
Competing in an Open Meet currently being held in Paris, Gambin broke the 100 metres butterfly and backstroke records as well as the 50 metres 'fly mark.
He recorded 53.94 seconds in the butterfly event to better the time he set in the Euro Championships in Eindhoven in March by 0.39 seconds. His time of 1:00.11 in the 100 metres back was an improvement of 0.90 seconds on his previous best set in Luxembourg last weekend.
Gambin then went on to clip two hundredths of a second off the time, also recorded in Luxembourg, when he covered the 50 'fly in 24.48 seconds.
This tally made it a total of seven national records (five from Gambin) and three age-group marks so far in the last five days.
The others were registered during the Luxembourg Meet, where Gambin broke the 50 free (23.73) and the 200 'fly (2:07.28), while the 4x100 free and medley relay teams of Gambin, Mark Sammut, Steven Slee, Neil Agius and Sammut, Gambin, Andrea Agius and Neil Agius respectively, recorded 3:48.54 and 4:16.95.
The three age-group records came from Sammut - 50 back in 31.26 (C) and Talisa Pace - 100 free in 1:01.44 (D) and 50 free in 28.24 (D).
