Valletta mayor Paul Borg Olivier yesterday submitted his nomination for the post of general secretary of the Nationalist Party.

Dr Borg Olivier's nomination was the second one for the post to be received by the party's electoral commission following that of newly-elected MP Charlò Bonnici.

Dr Borg Olivier had unsuccessfully contested the post in 1999 when he was beaten by the present outgoing general secretary Joe Saliba.

Other nominations for PN posts submitted yesterday were by Siġġiewi councillor and PN candidate Karol Aquilina for president of the PN executive, John Bonello for the post of international secretary and Peter Darmanin for that of treasurer.

Nominations close at noon today.
