Take commitment to quality, faultless customer service and a viable long-term vision. Add creativity to it, and you have the recipe for success for an ICT company in the Maltese market.
ICON, formerly known as ICON Studios, have just launched their new brand identity and a number of new initiatives.
"The ICT industry is a booming one, locally and internationally, and competition is fierce. If you're going to be in the industry, you certainly need the basics: Commitment to quality, faultless customer service and a viable long term vision. But to really succeed, you need something more, a differentiating element that makes your company immediately recognisable and hopefully, remarkable. For ICON, it's our creativity," according to Gege Gatt, director for strategy and business development at ICON.
"Creativity is indeed a fundamental ingredient for our success. Our creativity stems from the passion that every team member has for their job and this industry in general. Without the creative element, we'd just be another web design firm churning out run-of-the-mill websites. Thankfully, we've put together a team of experts that have a genuine love for what they do, and this is reflected in the quality of ICON's work."
The company has invested heavily in its web development capability, including an increase in headcount of 30 per cent by the end of this year, brand new, modern offices to cater for continued growth, as well as training programmes and incentives for all team members. The company is also developing a number of new, innovative software applications which will be delivered using the software as a service model, so that customers can finally choose a reliable, feature rich, costeffective software solution.
"We've seen a significant increase in the market over the past five years," Dr Gatt told i-Tech. "When the internet hit Malta, local companies scrambled to get online and they did so in droves. The problem was that the average web presence for a local company was quite unsophisticated. It was more a case of being online rather than reaping the business benefits of a well developed web presence. Now we're seeing these same companies approach us to redevelop their site and add value to it. Our clients are requesting websites that give them the freedom to manage content themselves, online payment systems that allow them to sell their products locally and overseas, and a variety of customer relationship management (CRM) features that help our customers speak directly to theirs.
"The interest in e-commerce is particularly strong locally, especially in the tourism sector. We've had a good response from local hotels for our product which allows them to manage their allocation online and sell rooms through their site.
Currently, the demand has increased significantly thanks to a tax incentive by Malta Enterprise, in which Maltese businesses can collect a tax credit of €12,000."
ICON has also moved into the international market by closing a number of high profile contracts in the UK.
