WasteServ Malta Ltd has extended its support to the environmental education project EkoSkola for this year with a contribution of €3,200 (Lm1,373.76).
The funds will help Nature Trust (Malta), which manages the project as the representative of FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education), to cover FEE membership for the year.
The project runs in over 50 countries. In Malta, since it kicked off in 2002, EkoSkola has grown from six primary schools to 73 schools. Four schools have so far achieved Green Flag status, an international award given to those that meet the rigid criteria of environmental management. Four other schools have obtained the Silver Award and three have received the Bronze Award.
EkoSkola adopts an overall management strategy characterised by monitoring the progress in each participating school, offering support to participating schools and teachers, promoting the programme with new schools, designing educational materials and taking initiatives to attract funding and support for the programme and empowering children to take decisions and initiatives.
