Three cases of illegal employment found after 26 inspections

Removal orders have been issued against three persons – from Libya, Serbia and China, found to be employed illegally, the police said.

The three were found out during 26 inspections conducted by the police in outlets in St Julians and Paceville last Monday.

Their employers, Alfredo Spiteri De Barro, Angelo Paulini and Edward Cachia were arraigned in court this morning and fined €1,200 each.

Inspectors Sandro Zarb and Nezren Grixti prosecuted.

What about construction sites?

What a joke! Some people are not doing their job all that well, are they? They could have gone to any building site up the road and found many more. And if you want some more hundreds of them illegals just send the inspectors to the Bugibba, Qawra area.

That's a score of 3 out of 26 inspections.............WOW !!!

Well done ! Can a Maths person come forward now and calculate for us how many hundreds of thoushands of inspections are needed to stop the hundreds of other illegally employed people roaming freely amongst us.
To the economists of the country who are arguing that cheap labour is needed to boost up our local economy this is not a big slap in the face,at least.
To the enforcing agency who go out and after a days work report back to the office with these results, well I say to them,we ain't all intellectuals and all that but please, please we aren't THAT stupid so could you please go a sell this somewhere else.
One wonders why "XARABANK" doesn't come up with a programme with this agenda,eh!!!

If only our parliament and GRTU were as serious about the issue as in other countries. Everybody knows that the UK have a massive problem with illegal immigrants.

Yet the GRTU proposes a system that removed the ugly and unacceptable daily scenes at Marsa and elsewhere where migrants congregate to seek employment but can still be employed.

Serious countries take action even against employers of illegal immigrants. Maybe the GRTU should have a look at this article:

Let's look at this times article in 10 years time and reflect where Malta has gone wrong! (Too little too late!!!, huh)

only 3. what a joke, if only look around you espically bugibba, qawra, sliema, s julians etc bulgarians, serbs, chinese, arabs, africans, do they all have a working permit?
R.Gauci (on 19/6/08)
Did I understood well just 3 found? Just 2 days ago GRTU said that everyday a lot of employers go to Marsa to seek workers from illegal immigrants. What about the Law that says that people coming from abroad should have a valid work permit to work in Malta even for EU citizens and this had to be issued only if a job couldn't be done by a Maltese . As far as I remember that was discussed when joining the EU to avoid that Maltese people couldn't find a job and Malta got a derogate! So its clear that the law is being break as GRTU admitted! Where are the authorities? Everyone is sleeping! Discrimination is clearly being made against first Maltese workers which have to pay all Taxes and contributions and secondly to other foreign workers which need a work permit!! Is it possible that some of the jobs that the GRTU is talking about can't be done by unemployed Maltese ?This is clearly a case of modern slavery these imigrants are sure being paid peanuts to be also given food and accomodation! What is the ETC and the police corp doing ?

Great. This a a strong courageous Government move. Please do keep it up.

I do not know if I should laugh or cry!
So does this mean all these foreign pasterers and white washers, all the belly dancers one sees in bars swinging on metal pipes in Paceville and other places, have a permit to work here?
On what criteria?
Any bar in Sliema and St.Julians would have a non EU worker inside.
I say the authorities do not really know what the situation is.
Shame....

Well done!!
