Fire rips through four cars in Sliema

Four cars parked next to each other on a Sliema street were destroyed by fire in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The police said the fire started in one of the cars, a Seat Ibiza, and spread to the others - an Opel Astra, a Peugeot 107 and a Volkswagen Lupo - becoming a fierce blaze.

The façade of two shops situated opposite the burning cars, in Depiro Street, were damaged.

The fire was controlled by personnel from the Civil Protection Department's fire section.

Police and magisterial inquiries are under way.
