Allow me to congratulate the ever-efficient, prompt and resourceful Water Services Corporation.
On early Saturday morning, a water pipe beneath the street surface burst in Stuart Street, Gżira.
Being a dutiful citizen and taxpayer, at around 8 a.m. I felt it was my immediate duty to report the fact on the competent emergency water services line. I was informed that the fault had been reported earlier and the works repair team informed.
As no bashing, dashing, sweating crew came to repair the ever flowing, precious, pure water oozing out and running to the sea, at around 7.30 p.m. I again drew the corporation's attention.
Obviously, I was re-informed that the matter was on the list and being taken care of. The next morning, some 28 hours and thousands of litres of wasted, good water later, the fountain was still active with no repair team in sight!
One wonders why this incompetent and malfunctioning corporation continues to spend all those euros on publicity slogans to instil in taxpayers and hefty-bill payers the need to save water and use it efficiently.
Yet it seems it cannot cope with a basic, fundamental emergency where time and delays mean money.
Is the corporation's message "Every Drop Counts!" a gimmick, a catchphrase or what?
Incidentally (and for fairness' sake), the repairs were carried out on Sunday at around noon - a mere, insignificant but scandalous 32 hours later!
