MLP to hold early election of the party administration

The administration of the Labour Party has agreed to convene a meeting of the executive which will agree a date for early elections of the administration and the executive, the MLP said this evening.

The proposal was made by party leader Joe Muscat and the deputy leaders.

The administration’s term is due to end in January but there have been many calls for early elections to complete the process which started with the election of the leadership.

of course the pn had nothing to do with it! I'm pretty sure they were very upset by what was going on then. As i'm perfectly convinced that the bombs during the 1980's intended to destabilise the country were carried out by mlp thugs. Incidentally, the bombs stopped as soon as the pn was in government.

@ jimmy magro
Don't try to be the smart guy talking about the gakketta Blu,
Tell us, were you in the AFM task force, at that time ? ( Dejma )
were they not used by the mlp in gov, to make Malta a Police/ Military State ?

The sad thing is that most of these dejma PT's after they done their duty very satisfatory
over 1000 of them got kicked out of the army by mr mintoff, and left jobless ! but some other's
NO most of them are still in the Job, thanks to the never ending klikka of the mlp !

Sadly to say, is that some of the ex - Dejma are still being seen as the black sheep's to date.
especially when a licence for work is needed, like a securty guard, local warden, ecc !
to the big party's both mlp and pn, with Ahfruli only, won't help at all, REMEDIES is what we need now !
F' INTERESS TAL PUBBLIKU.

I fully agree with Jimmy Magro's comments. As for those pitifull comments from the conservatives re disturbances is all false propaganda to destabalise a lawfully elected Goverment. i WOULD THINK IT WOULD BE FOOLISH FOR ANY GOVERMENT to destabilse a country. Now i deal with the false accusations .
1 Mr.EFA was quoted as saying that he knew who assaulted his family .Why were they not brought to justice. Now what sane person would leave his family unprotected if those times were as stated by these conservatives .
The shooting at tal-Barrani Why is it the persons responsible not brought to justice, instead as soon as a conservatives are in goverment are given promotion.
There are numerous other incidents but for now its enough
David Buttigieg (on 19/6/08)
@Mario Borg,
The interdett was terrible, pity for your argument that had nothing to do with anybody but the church!

@Jimmy Magro
Please, I lived through those times and if you want to tell fairy tales tell it to the marines!

Not only Black Monday need be mentioned but Bombs left right and centre all over the place (ah yes hose were by PN) murders in police depots by commissioners, the closing down of my school so I had to study underground, the smashing f the curia, banning of chocolate, toothpaste etc, the list goes on Jimmy boy - ah yes, for you they were lies weren't they?
Angelo Desira (on 19/6/08)
With Joseph Muscat new leader of MLP there is a swing from new floating voters. I think also that an early election is the best for the party so works can begin qiuckly.I took the opportunity to thanks Dr Alfred Sant , Dr Charles Mangion and Dr Micheal Falzon.
Mario Bonnici (on 19/6/08)
To Mr Joe Vella.

What's wrong with Dr. Toni Abela? Has he ever been accused of corruption or any wrong doing?
Dr.Abela was one of the few that in 1989 had the courage to criticise the Labour Party for the corruption and violent elements it had.
He suffered beacuse of this.

Now he's back. MLP will benefit from an honest person like him.
mario borg (on 19/6/08)
regarding freedom of speech and expression, why do we always have to stop in the 1980's? why not go a little more back in time, let's say in the 1960's? what about the privilege of being banned from a decent burial if you happen to belief in left wing ideology? what about being forbidden from reading a newspaper or else you can't be administrated holy sacraments? I'm too young to remember those days, but my family experienced it first hand and they all agree that that time was great for freedom of expression!
Joe Galea (on 19/6/08)
@Joe Vella, if you are criticising Labour on rejuvination because you understand this word in a literal form, then look at your party and tell us about your party rejuvination...George Pullicino, Giovanna Debono, Tonio Borg, John Dalli, Gonzi, Louis Deguara, Austin Gatt, etc etc etc. So please spare us your wisdom!!
@Joe Martinelli - read what Jimmy Magro pointed out.
Jimmy Magro (on 18/6/08)
@ David Buttigieg
Do you have any comments on the paramilitary group tal-Gakketta Blu, the series of bombs to destabilise the country, the Malta file distributed all over europe, the endless lies with the citizens. We need to look into the future and this is what this debate is all about. If you want to freeze your mind on what happened in 1979 that is your problem but the ordinary citizen want to know whether his wage and or salary will be enough to pay his bills; why health queues continue to grow; why many families are forced to send their children into private paying schools; why big speculators always get the backing of MEPA; why some people in certain positions live a life beyond their declared income? Give us a break man, and let us clean this country of corruption and privileges for the very very few.
My biggest challenge is to have a declaration of assets of all people in Malta as at 31st december 1987 and 31st december 2007. These are the questions that must be addressed and not what happened in more than a quarter of a century ago.
Joe Martinelli (on 18/6/08)
You guys should know better!

The MLP always championed free speech - then the thugs and beatings followed!!
Gerard Mangion (on 18/6/08)
It seems that at last, the mlp administration realized that the mlp supporters are fed up
, with being in LIMBO after the mlp Telfa,
Andre Chetcuti (on 18/6/08)
Well done Dr.Joseph Muscat. Now its the delegates turn : get rid of certain incompetent officials as soon as possible, our country cannot afford such people at the helm of our political parties.
Francis Attard (on 18/6/08)
In September 1998, Dr.Joseph Muscat, the actual MLP leader wrote in a local newspaper the following: "the fact that the name of the Leader of the Opposition was never mentioned on the State-owned media, the fact that mob attacks on the house of the leader of the opposition, Progress Press and Curia were almost justified".
How is that for freedom of the press and democracy?
I could also have quoted what someone wrote just 6 days ago. But I leave that for some other time.
I have always written that the battle for the administration of our country is between 'a bad' and 'a worse', and the MLP has still to prove that it is not the latter.
eric saliba (on 18/6/08)
@ david buttigieg.
of course i know what black monday was! when some idiots / hotheads went on the rampage & burnt down the times premises. i am not condoning those events. now let me ask you whether you know or remember when a nationalist health minister lost a court case for preventing a patient in hospital from reading the paper of his choice!!
and it was a labour govt that introduced freedom of speech and expression in the constitution my friend...in case you've forgotten !!
David Buttigieg (on 18/6/08)
@Eric Saliba,

What in God's name has that got to do with it? Do you even know what Black Monday was? Your point should be made to the church!!! The fact remains that "The MLP always believed in free press" is one big joke!
Joe Vella (on 18/6/08)
Rejuvination. What Rejuvination?. In the form of Toni Abela and Anglu Farrugia.
Paul Josef Magro (on 18/6/08)
new leader new administration and most of all new general secretary, good bye MR Toothpaste!!!!!!!!!
F Spiteri (on 18/6/08)
To all PN frantics who are soooooo used to promises not honoured that by time they are thinking that this is the way life goes:

DR. JOSEPH MUSCAT IS KEEPING THIS PROMISE DONE A FEW WEEKS AGO OF SUPPORTING AN EARLY ELECTION FOR THE ADMINISTRATION POSTS !!

If you did follow what Dr Muscat had promised, THIS was one of his promises, to support an early election. And please continue remaining astonished as more promises are becoming real. Well ... MLP is not only on the right track, but on the fast lane!! PN now have to get used to just follow!!
Luke Vella (on 18/6/08)
Good one Dr Muscat, now we need new administration to make the team completed, MLP needs professionals not amateurs, MLP needs new people that listen what the voters wants not careless people who only take care of there seat and nothing else.
eric saliba (on 18/6/08)
@ joe mizzi (fgura)
joseph promised this election in the run up to the leadership contest. anything else is superfluous and irrelevant. i hate having had to repeat but apparently some people take longer to understand than others.
@ david buttigieg.
maybe jimmy magro was referring to when it was a mortal sin to read labour newspapers!!
or have you conveniently forgotten all that??
David Buttigieg (on 18/6/08)
Jimmy Magro
"The MLP always believed in free press"
Now that's the joke of the century. Remember 1979? Black Monday?
Joe Mizzi (on 18/6/08)
@C Calleja

I ask you to get your facts rights! I am more than positive about the fact that a petition was presented to Dr. Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi on Monday 16th June 2008 in the evening, signed by a large number of delegates to call for an early election for the MLP Administration. Therefore what I am not getting is that since Dr. Muscat came in the party leadership, we have to credit everything being done to him.

The administration elections will be held because a petition by a large number of delegates was presented to the Party on Monday. Whether you like it or not that is what happened. Maybe the times could ask Dr. Zrinzo Azzopardi what exactly happened? I guess that now there might be a denial since this has become part of the glorification of the New Leader. (Joe Mizzi, fgura)
Joseph Debono (on 18/6/08)
I hope for the party, that all the rifraf from the present administration will be gone once and for all. the damage they have inflicted is tremendous and they should go and take their old thoughts with them.
This was another election that they destroyed for labour.
james abela (on 18/6/08)
ABC, bugger off will you!
C Calleja (on 18/6/08)
@ Joe Mizzi: Yes you are getting it wrong. The only petition presented to Stefaz Zrinzo Azzopardi was the one by Marlene Pullicino and which was already discussed in a conference.

News reports revealed that the other petition was stopped.
http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20080528/local/bid-for-early-election-of-administration-put-on-back-burner/

Now it was Joseph Muscat who took the initiative

C. Darmanin (on 18/6/08)
Dear Joe Mizzi, which part of the 2nd line dont you get? It reads "The proposal was made by party leader Joe Muscat and the deputy leaders."

victor caruana (on 18/6/08)
@ABC

keep up filling your face, try your best to keep the groovy train on the rails and keep making hay until the sun shines.

@MLP

present your positions in short crisp clear statements and refrain from unnecessary dialectics, argumentation, debating and philosophizing on points you want to pass on to the electorate. And please stop exposing such points in long winded report items on News One which in the end render the message incomprehensible.
eric saliba (on 18/6/08)
@ joe mizzi (fgura). joseph muscat promised this in the run up to the leadership contest. it is not a question of getting where credit is not due but keeping his word !
@ andrew borg cardona. what is not 'bleedin' obvious' is how and why the sec general of the nationalist party is elected just by the members of the party executice. why not by all the members like people were asking the mlp to do in the election of party leader???
this smacks of hypocrisy to me !
Joe Mizzi (on 18/6/08)
I'm sorry but I seem to get it all wrong. It was not Dr. Joseph Muscat that proposed a new date for the administration election, but a petition presented by a large number of delegates on Monday evening. This petition was presented to the MLP President by a representative of the signatories. Now Dr. Muscat is trying to get the praise for doing something he did not do! (Joe Mizzi Fgura)
Joseph Grech-Attard (on 18/6/08)
Goooooooooooood!! May God help you all. You deserve His blessing and guidance. The snowball is rolling and getting bigger and bigger. By the time the next elections arrive it will be the biggest ever. Thank you Joseph Muscat and all the others.
Daniel Micallef (on 18/6/08)
well done to Joseph and the leadership. now that the new leadership team has been elected, it's time to renew the administration.
jimmy magro (on 18/6/08)
The Party Administration is composed of the leadership and 8 other officers, a total of 11 persons. Following the election of three new persons to hold the leadership position, the MLP requires a new set of the 8 other administration members. The Administration failed to deliver a winning result in the most winnable election ever. This is not a question of faces, smiles or head rolling. But this is what the Party deserves. The party is above any other consideration and everyone must be ready to pay the price to make the MLP electable in the shortest time possible. This is part of our democratic values. Malta cannot be turned into a one-party state. Democracy entails an alternating system of government especially in the case of Malta where the winner takes all.
Delegates and others should not be astonished by the reports in the local media. This is a natural process. The MLP always believed in free press and democracy and therefore we should not be bothered by what others say about the MLP. After all, they do not know to do otherwise. Let us keep on our course united under the new Leadership.
Charles Stafrace (on 17/6/08)
The earlier the MLP sets its house in order the better. Until now we are on the right track, and let's hope we remain so with the election of the administration people. New blood in the leadership, new blood in the administration.
Andrew Borg-Cardona (on 17/6/08)
Interesting, Muscat gets praised to high heaven for doing what can only be described as the bleedin' obvious. Oh well, given the MLP's recent past, I suppose it is surprising that this sort of thing is done..
chris borg (on 17/6/08)
wow! well done Joseph. well done. How can the PN media be taken seriously. Follow Joseph's step guys...create an ethics council and be part of a new political season. In what Joseph is doing there is no right or left. follow his steps and you will be applauded. Say Stop with gutter politics. This kind of Labour is music to the Nation's ears. Hope is on the way.
patrick scicluna (on 17/6/08)
yes well done joseph,it is a true NEW WINNING GENERATION.
Justin Tabone (on 17/6/08)
The change goes on and on. Joseph means business. He is proving himself day afer day. Finally, the breath of fresh air our country needed.
V. Cauchi (on 17/6/08)
Excellent decision. Labour must not allow anyone to set its agenda so forget all about the tripe that is dished out regularly by Medialink.' Let all the valid persons come up for election and give the delgates a wide selection of talents and capbilities that would take Labour through a radical change that would lead it to an electoral success.

Good luck to all contenders for all posts! Labour has never seen such a rejuvenating charge as this week. Keep up the good work everybody!
Joseph Caruana (on 17/6/08)
Forza Italia :) After all Gonzi and Muscat side with Italy :)
David Gatt (on 17/6/08)
Joseph Muscat is truly showing he's a man of his word
Ivan Scicluna (on 17/6/08)
And the renewal continues. Joseph Muscat keeps his promise and convenes a meeting of the Executive Committee to decide a date for the election of new party officials. The earliest the better and may new blood is elected to the top posts of the administration. The new political season continues to unfold for the MLP.
Randolph De Battista (on 17/6/08)
Good proposal Joseph. It's a sign of maturity and it goes against anything the Media.link is trying to portray!
I'm sure the delegates will choose the right persons. Please do note, that this is not an election concerning only Jason Micallef. So before you start attacking him personally, may I remind you that the administration is not only made up of the Sectretary General. Every member of the administration is important, and I'm pretty sure the delegates know this!
Charles J Buttigieg (on 17/6/08)
Well done.
