The police arrested five persons during anti-drug operations conducted in Buġibba and Paceville.

The police said the Drug Squad on Thursday raided an apartment in Buġibba where they suspected cannabis plants were being cultivated.

The search was carried out in the presence of the occupant of the flat, a 30-year-old man, and the police found two cannabis plants which appeared to have been planted quite some time ago. The man was arrested.

Four persons from Birkirkara, Sta Luċija, Marsascala and Qawra aged between 17 and 35 were arrested after they were allegedly found in possession of cannabis resin during a raid in Paceville on Saturday night.

The police said that one of them, a man from Sudan residing in Qawra, was allegedly found in possession of cannabis resin ready to be sold. The police alleged more cannabis was found during a search at his residence.

He was arraigned in court yesterday.
