End of the road for cat stuck in car engine

A kitten was rescued from the confines of a car engine in Swieqi but had to be put down due to its injuries.

The kitten had climbed into the undercarriage and got stuck there.

Residents of Triq il-Qasam complained that attempts to contact animal sanctuaries proved fruitless and they had to call the Civil Protection Department, whose members were on the scene within minutes.

CPD members Chris Buttigieg and Natalino Attard spent over an hour trying to rescue the kitten and eventually succeeded.

But after assessing the animal's injuries, Quentin Lawson, a vet called to the scene, decided to put it down.
