A 34th minute header from Jan Koller gave Czech Republic a deserved 1-0 halftime lead against Turkey in their decisive group match this evening.

Koller rose high above the Turkish defence to head Zdenek Grygera's cross home to mark his 90th international appearance with his 55th goal for his country.

The Czechs dominated most of a tense, error-strewn first half and had the first scoring chance when Koller headed over the bar.

Turkey's best chance fell to Tuncay Sanli whose 30-metre shot after 17 minutes fizzed just past Petr Cech's post.

Turkey midfielder Mehmet Aurelio was booked for dissent after 10 minutes and will miss the next match if Turkey advance to the quarter-finals. Victory would take either side through as group runners-up.
