Defensive driving courses

The Institute of Health and Safety (IHS) has just completed the accreditation process for membership of the US National Safety Council (NSC). It is now accredited to run their defensive driving courses here in Malta. This should be of particular interest not only to those companies that operate fleets of vehicles, but also to small companies and individuals concerned about road safety.

The number of people who drive as part of their work has increased dramatically over the last five years, and for these people their vehicle is their workplace. Employers therefore need to ensure that drivers are competent and aware of the increased risks that result from being a frequent driver.

Most importantly, they need to encourage their employees to develop safe driving habits that help keep them and other road users from harm. Of course, better driving habits can also reduce costs to employers by preventing accidents and the costs associated with them, and also by helping to reduce maintenance costs for vehicles; vehicles that are driven well tend to require less maintenance.

The institute is offering four-, six- and eight-hour courses.
