Obituary

BORG. On June 13, ANTHONY of Mellieħa, aged 88, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his irreparable loss his children Jane, wife of Charles Vella, Agnes, wife of Joe Caruana, Doris, wife of Michael Caruana, Marthese, wife of Marcel Spiteri, Anthony and his wife Connie, Joe and his wife Josephine, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in-laws and their families, other relatives and friends. Your dedication and love for your family will always be treasured. We'll miss you Dad. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.45 p.m. for Our Lady of Victories (Maria Bambina) parish church, Mellieħa, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.30 p.m., followed by interment at Mellieħa cemetery. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

DeGABRIELE. On June 13, at Apap Institute, Sta Venera, MARIA DOLORES, aged 98, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her only surviving brother, Fr Joseph DeGabriele, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Apap Institute today for St Venera new parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Apap Institute or Dar tal-Kleru, Birkirkara, will be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

PATERSON. On June 8, BETTY, died peacefully at Queen's Court Care Home, Wimbledon, with daughters Anne and Jane both at her side. A funeral service will be held at Christ church on June 23 at 12.45 p.m., followed by a woodland burial at Langney Cemetery, Eastbourne, East Sussex, UK. The peace of God which passeth all understanding shall keep our hearts and minds.

Course on conservation studies

Heritage Malta will be holding an introductory course on conservation studies between July 14 and August 1 through its Institute of Conservation and Management of Cultural Heritage (ICMCH).

This course is aimed at the public particularly to prospective conservation-restoration students.

The course is a compulsory special entry requirement for the Bachelor in Conservation and Restoration Studies (Honours) - BCons (Hons) degree.

The fee is €140 (Lm60) for the public and €70 (Lm30) for students. Application forms can be downloaded from www.heritage-malta.org. One can also collect an application form from the ICMCH Office at Heritage Malta Bighi in Kalkara.

Training for Gozo Entrepreneurs

The Gozo Business Chamber is managing the project Empowering Gozitan Entrepreneurs within the context of the Leonardo Da Vinci Programme.

Six members of the chamber will go on a two-week training programme with a leading vocational training institution in Italy. This will enhance their entrepreneurial skills and help them to retain their competitiveness in an increasingly competitive business scenario. The training experience will be conducted between February and April 2009.

Sculpture courses

The Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce will be running courses on stone and clay sculpture.

Subscription lists

RS2 Software plc has announced its decision to close subscription lists on reaching the 12,500,000 shares threshold established under the combined offering.

The company said it was proud to have attracted subscriptions from about 700 applicants, including a large number of retail investors, local and foreign institutional investors, various employees, as well as a number of its own clients.

Bazaar for Children's Fund

Appoġġ is organising a bazaar in aid of its Children's Fund, from which 254 children benefited last year. It will be held at the parish hall of the Immaculate Conception Church in Ħamrun on June 21 and 22 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.

The bazaar will be held in conjunction with volunteers from Programm Ulied Darna, a service within Aġenzija Appoġġ provided by volunteers who support families whose children are at great social risk.

Bank staff rewarded

HSBC has rewarded three of its staff members with the title of Local Heroes and a sum of €646 (Lm277.25) each for their achievement at their place of work.

Ernest Agius, Jamie Enright and Edwin Balzan were rewarded for excellence in their job in launching the bank's Next Generation Website and the Internet Banking Project.

The three donated the cash to St Joseph Institute, the Mtarfa parish church and Nature Trust (Malta).

Bazaar in Ħamrun

The Little Sisters of the Poor are holding a bazaar at the home in Ħamrun from June 24 to 26 between 9 a.m. and noon and from 1.30 and 5.30 p.m.

A wide variety of items and hand-made crafts will be on sale. Everyone is invited to attend and support the home by buying items.

Board A Bus lottery

The winners of the Malta Transport Authority's Board A Bus And Win Lottery for May are Rose Mifsud, Dominic Zammit and Maria Portelli. These won €698.81 (Lm299.92), €349.41 (Lm149.96) and €116.47 (49.99) respectively. All have been notified.

Mozart Mass

The Collegium Musicum Choir will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Coronation Mass during the Pontifical High Mass to be celebrated at St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta, on June 22 at 9.30 a.m., the liturgical feast of St John the Baptist, as a thanksgiving for its past 25 years of success. The Eucharistic celebration will be presided over by Archbishop Paul Cremona assisted by the Metropolitan Cathedral Chapter.
