Two men were seriously injured during a fight in what turned out to be a busy Thursday night for the police, who also had to deal with a shooting, a car fire and a drugs find.
The police said the fight broke out at about half past midnight on December 13 Square, Żejtun.
Damage was done to two cars, belonging to two of the persons involved in the fight, and a kiosk in the square.
Two men were arraigned in court yesterday in connection with the fight.
The police said those involved included a 28-year-old man from Żejtun and a 30-year-old man from Tarxien, who were both seriously injured, as well as a 58-year-old man from Sta Luċia who was slightly injured and a 25-year-old woman who was unhurt.
Meanwhile, a shooting was reported at l-Aħrax tal-Mellieħa, limits of Mellieħa, at around the same time.
No one was injured. The police said shots fired by unknown persons missed a Briton living in Malta.
Also shortly after midnight, police on patrol in Patri Redent Cauchi Square, Fgura, spotted two men and a woman acting suspiciously.
A search of their persons and a car belonging to one of them produced heroin and cannabis as well as other objects associated with drug abuse.
Earlier, Cospicua police were called out after someone reported that a car was on fire in San Nikola Street.
The Ford Escort had earlier been stolen from another street in Cospicua, the police said. It was completely destroyed in the fire.
