The Controlled Vehicular Access (CVA) system recognises only Maltese number plates, but not those of other countries, even if EU members, Transport Minister Austrin Gatt told Owen Bonnici (MLP) in reply to a parliamentary question.

Accordingly, no fees are collected for vehicles of tourists or non-Maltese resident owners who have a temporary permit to continue using foreign number plates.

Vehicle owners residing in Malta should register their vehicles with Maltese number plates.
