StreetCat Rescue has appealed for wells found in gardens or fields to be properly covered after a cat had to be abandoned during a rescue attempt.

The appeal came following a call to help find a missing cat a few days ago. After a number of rescue attempts, StreetCat Rescue heard the cat's calls coming from the well of a disused house.

The Civil Protection Department and the police were called in to assist but the opening of the well was too narrow for them to get in and after around two hours they had no choice but to leave. StreetCat Rescue said that it could easily have been a child that had drowned instead of a kitten because an irresponsible person left a dangerous well uncovered.

The rescue service appealed to animal lovers to help it reach its aims of feeding , medicating and giving shelter to stray cats and kittens, by kindly donating cat-food, medicine and sheets of wood and Perspex. Those wishing to assist by helping the rescue service in their spare time are also welcome.
