It was more than merely putting their money where there mouth is when eight five-star hotels got together to do something for the environment.

The hotels continuously give their support in aid of the environment and this time they participated in a seabed clean-up in various beaches in their vicinity. including the Merkanti reef area and St George's Bay.

The participating hotels were: the Westin Dragonara Resort, the Intercontinental, Radisson SAS Bay Point Resort, Radisson SAS Golden Sands Resort & Spa, Le Meridien St Julians Hotel & Spa, Corinthia Hotels, The Grand Hotel Excelsior and Hilton Malta, which this year hosted the Environment Day event from the Merkanti Beach club.

This event, which is planned to be an annual one, was opened by Tourism Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco, who stressed the importance of the five-star properties in Malta in delivering a five-star product for its tourists. The initiative demonstrated a commitment by five-star hotels in achieving this goal.

Thirty team members from the five-star hotels, all qualified divers, took part in the event. The divers were assisted by Abyss Diving School, Dive Wise and Yellow Fun, which provided a boat, a barge and the expertise of a professional diver. Various helpers from the different hotels escorted the barge to the dive areas in order to assist in the collection of items from the seabed.
