The writing is on the wall and there exists a dangerous disgruntlement among Labour supporters.
The general feeling is that Jason Micallef does not have the basic qualities to fill the important position of secretary general and this is putting it mildly. Worse still, he has now became the "worm in the soup", and without even trying, his very presence next to Joseph Muscat is damaging the latter's image. The man must go and now.
The position of the party secretary general is one that demands complete service to the party and all its executive body, members and all supporters - it is not a personal career opportunity.
All the diplomacy in the world and the ultraistic endeavours by our leader to unite the party will not bear fruit before this man is out.
The likes of George Abela, Marie Louise Coleiro-Preca, Michael Falzon and Evarist Bartolo are needed in the party, Mr Micallef isn't.
He has proved to all that he hasn't been blessed with the required credentials and his position has become untenable.
